Resident Requirements – Small Animal and Equine Updates
January 4, 2019
Small Animal Joint Replacement Requirement
It has come to our attention that the log requirements for three joint replacement surgeries in the “Orthopedics - Other” category could be confusing. Rather than keep it as a requirement within the “Orthopedics - Other” category, joint replacements have been separated into an independent category and the “Orthopedics - Other” requirement has been decreased by three cases. This change will apply to all residents that started on or after July 1, 2015.
Residents with joint replacement cases already logged that need to be reclassified into the new category should contact Jeff Melia, Resident Training and Technology Manager, at email@example.com.
Equine Upper Respiratory Requirement
During the fall review period it was discovered that the large animal Upper Respiratory case requirement was listed incorrectly in the Resident Training Log system for residents starting on or after July 1, 2015. Despite the Residency Training Standards and Requirements correctly describing a need for 30 cases, the log system incorrectly indicated a requirement of 15 cases. This problem has been corrected in the log system. Please check right away to see how many cases still need to be completed. Residents require 30 cases in the Upper Respiratory category, 15 of which should be directly supervised.
