My primary motivation to leave the UK was to work with Marv Olmstead and learn more about orthopedic surgery and total hip replacement. I received this training in spades. In the almost five decades that I have been doing surgery, I have had the honor of learning from numerous veterinarians and physicians from around the world. Many of these people I consider to be my colleagues, mentors, and friends. I must also give credit to my patients who have taught me a great deal over the years. I have had the pleasure of passing what I have learned on to many veterinary students, residents, and even some physicians along the way. It is humbling that some of these people have seen fit to present me with Honored Mentor status.
