Honored Mentor
Marvin Olmstead
DVM, MS, DACVS
It was an amazing experience to learn total hip replacement from one of the pioneers of the procedure.
- Jeff D. Brourman, DVM, MS, DACVS
Marv is one of the rare individuals who touched so many surgeons’ lives that his impact has been profound and far-reaching. Even surgeons like me who were not his residents have been impacted. From his ultra-efficiency to his pragmatic approach, Marv’s example was one to strive for.
- R. Mark Daye, DVM, MS, DACVS
My primary motivation to leave the UK was to work with Marv Olmstead and learn more about orthopedic surgery and total hip replacement. I received this training in spades. Marv trusted me at the earliest opportunity to help with BioMedtrix workshops and invited me to join the AO faculty; both endeavors and their extraordinary surgical educators continue to motivate me. Then and now, Marv is my advocate, my surgical lodestar, and my friend.
- Jonathan Dyce, MA, VetMB, MRCVS, DSAO, DACVS
Marv is an icon in veterinary orthopedic surgery. It has been an honor and a privilege to learn from him and those he has trained.
- Michael P. Kowaleski, DVM, DACVS, DECVS
In the almost five decades that I have been doing surgery, I have had the honor of learning from numerous veterinarians and physicians from around the world. Many of these people I consider to be my colleagues, mentors, and friends. I must also give credit to my patients who have taught me a great deal over the years. I have had the pleasure of passing what I have learned on to many veterinary students, residents, and even some physicians along the way. It is humbling that some of these people have seen fit to present me with Honored Mentor status.
