Honored Mentor
Dale E. Bjorling
DVM, MS, DACVS
Dr. Bjorling was the type of mentor that I aspire to be. He taught me the ‘fortunes of war,’ but most importantly, he taught me that a goal of teaching a good resident is not that they become carbon copies of yourself, rather they use all of their collective experiences during a residency to become the best version of themselves.
- Julia Sumner, BVSc, MANZCVS, DACVS (Small Animal)
My goal in working with residents is to try to equip them with the skills to be better than me. Over the years, I feel that I have learned at least as much from them as they have from me. It is extremely gratifying and humbling to be recognized by former trainees as having had a positive impact on their professional development.
