The ACVS Board of Regents invites applications from Diplomates interested in serving as the assistant director for the large animal program on the Continuing Education (CE) Committee. This position receives an annual stipend and other volunteer benefits.
The assistant director oversees the large animal and scientific program subcommittees. Large animal subcommittee responsibilities are to choose seminar topics and select seminar chairs and speakers for the ACVS Surgery Summit. Scientific program subcommittee responsibilities are to support the scientific abstract submission and evaluation process and support the production of the scientific program at the ACVS Surgery Summit. Requirements include availability via email, frequently requiring prompt responses or action; participating in periodic conference calls; and attending annual committee meetings in the spring, summer, and at the Surgery Summit. The position also requires adhering to deadlines on the established Surgery Summit calendar and a willingness to communicate with colleagues regarding responsibilities and timeliness. Experience in organizing professional CE is desirable but not required.
The assistant director for large animal programs is appointed by the Board of Regents, reports to the CE director, and works closely with the ACVS continuing education staff. The incoming assistant director will shadow the current assistant director July through October 2023. The anticipated start date of the position’s five-year term is November 1, 2023. The appointed candidate is required to participate in the CE committee’s virtual summer meeting on July 26, 2023.
