ACVS President Ron McLaughlin, Director of Certification Eric Parente, and CEO Ann Loew recently joined a discussion with other veterinary specialty colleges, associations, practice groups, practitioners, and industry representatives on how to address the critical shortage of small animal veterinary specialists.
The group defined a number of priorities and activities for collective action over time that closely align with ACVS’s current strategic plan, specifically the objective to update training and certification.
The actions include defining the competencies needed for aspiring applicants to enter a residency program, framing residency training requirements in the context of specialty competencies, and innovating training programs to be more flexible and inclusive.
