David J. Fowler

Dr. Fowler contributed to the training of numerous residents over the years. He taught us to be calm, competent, and compassionate and truly led by example. While he often followed the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid), he was never shy to tackle something new or innovative. His contributions to the various ACVS committees is another example of his commitment to his specialty.

I did not quite realize during my residency exactly how lucky I was to be trained by David Fowler. It was only in subsequent years that I appreciated how well he mentored me (not an easy task!), and how I have unconsciously tried to emulate his style of nurturing residents. He is brilliant, humble and calm - and probably the best surgeon I know. His sense of humor and compassion made my residency a wonderful experience. Thank you, Dave.

One highlight of a very rewarding career has been the opportunity to work with and mentor fellow surgeons through their residency training programs.
